PHARMACEUTICS

Equipped with three undergraduate laboratories and three postgraduate laboratories, the department has instruments like, the B.O.D incubator, Antibiotic zone reader, Microscope with stage and oil immersion objective, Colony counter, Sterility testing unit, Tablet punching machine, Ampoule filling and sealing machine, Tablet dissolution test apparatus IP, Monsanto hardness tester, Clarity test apparatus, UV visible spectrophotometer, Probe sonicator, Photo stability chambers, Ointment filling machine, Lipstick moulds, Tablet coating pan, Capsule filling machine, Mechanical stirrers, Oswald’s viscometer, Stalagmometer, Brookfield viscometer, Homogeniser, Digital pH meter, Suppository moulds and Digital electronic balance.

Three post graduate courses are being offered by the department. They are:
1. Pharmaceutics
2. Pharmaceutics (Drug Regulatory affairs)
3. Quality assurance

Thrust areas of the department

  • Novel, Controlled and Targeted Drug delivery systems
  • Clinical and Community Pharmacy. The strength of the department lies in its innovative teaching methodology and research activities through collaborations.

Collaborations

The department in collaboration with Mangaluru University and the A.B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences has conducted several research activities. At present, there are two projects funded by RGUHS, Bangalore. Besides these, a few non-curricular projects have also been taken up to boost the research activity of the department in collaboration with the Department of Horticulture, Ullal, and Mangaluru.
